Distributor 123ignition Jaguar 6-cylinder Distributor 123ignition Jaguar 6-cylinder

NEW>>> With immediate effect available for positive earth! <<

This distributor replaces the Lucas distributors for many Jaguar 6-cylinder engines, like the 3.4/3.8/4.2 litre XK engines.

The unit offers 16 different advance-curves, that can be selected via a little switch. This is a great feature for easy fine-tuning your engine!

It also offers :

  • vacuum-advance
  • automatic dwell
  • spark balancing
  • automatic power cut after 1 second
  • gearshift retard
  • etc.etc.

Introducing the "123ignition"

The ignition in a classic car is often the source of many problems. After years of use the mechanical distributor becomes worn and increasingly inaccurate. Although replacement of the standard points with an optical eye or magnetic ignition setup is an improvement, it does not compensate for the wear in the advance mechanism, the distributor shaft and bearings within the distributor itself.

123ignition cross-sectional modelThis distributor is different. It comes in its own aluminum billet and nickel plated housing, although externally similar in its classic appearance to its mechanical counterpart, it contains high-tech electronics on the inside. While maintaining classical appearances under the bonnet, the internal technology makes your ignition system and engine perform better than ever before, and run as smoothly and reliably as a Japanese sewing-machine.

Maintenance free timing

All moving parts - like the original points, the centrifugal weights, the springs, the bearings and the vacuum diaphragm - have been replaced with just one moving part: the central shaft with the rotor.
The internal electronics provide the right advance and the optimum dwell-angle throughout the rev-range to maintain peak energy and peak performance. There is no wear altering the timing of this distributor once set, youll never have to worry about it again!

123ignition switchSixteen advance curves

With a little switch behind an opening in the bottom face of the billet-housing, you can select the best advance curve for your engine. Why? Well, simply because many different advance curves were prescribed by car manufacturers. You pay one distributor, but you get the advantage of 16 different distributors.

Spark balancing

Spark balancing is an advanced technology normally used in Formula 1, where engine speeds are tremendously high. This technique is built into this distributor. Its microprocessor constantly monitors the amount of energy contributed by each individual cylinder. Assume for example that the compression of one cylinder differs from the others. The motion of the flywheel would be less smooth, and so is the motion of the camshaft. This distributor detects this, and adjusts the timing of each cylinder individually. This results in a much quieter engine, more power and less wear. Have a look into the following video and watch the regularity the 123ignition fires with, unlike conventional systems or even well-known breakerless ignition systems:

Automatic dwell control

A mechanical distributor has a fixed dwell-angle, sometimes resulting in overheated coils at low speeds, weaker sparks and misfiring at high speeds. Why? An ignition coil only needs a couple of milliseconds to charge, but with a fixed dwell-angle these are overcharged many times when idling, resulting in - overheated coils! At high speeds the fixed dwell-angle tends to leave too little time to fully charge the coil, resulting in - weaker sparks and misfiring! This distributor measures the amount of current flowing into the coil, in such a way that the strongest possible spark is guaranteed at all engine speeds, whilst keeping the coil cool. Also to prevent coil overheating, the power to the coil is cut off as soon as the engine stops revving.

Wearing parts

No problems with wearing parts. Just replace cap and rotor every 20,000 miles with standard Bosch items (rotor 1.234.332.024 / cap 1.235.522.051 / 1.235.522.060 / 1.235.522.109 / 1.235.522.147).

Installation and tuning

Mounting and tuning is not a big deal. The distributor comes with a detailed English and German (on request) language installation and tuning manual with several pictures showing the easy work in five steps.

We can deliver distributors for further car models.

Gear reduction starter (Jaguar E-Type 4.2 litre, XJ6)

Gear reduction starter Jaguar 4.2Gear reduction starter for Jaguar E-Type 4.2 litre, all XJ6 till 1987

No threaded hole, requires locknut for top bolt

This Jaguar replacement starter replaces Lucas numbers 25684, 25252, 26180, 26252 among others, used in most Jaguar 4.2 in the Jaguar E Type and Jaguar XJ6. This Jaguar replacement starter does not have threaded holes as in the original Jaguar starter but this usually makes our Jaguar starter easier to install.

As you will see in the picture, this is an excellent gear reduction starter, replated like new, CNC machined, and will look at home in a show car or a 'driver'. Our standard unit is a 1.2 hp starter. Optionally 1.9 hp units are available on special order.

There has been some questions about what various people are selling for British cars. The units that we sell, as well as everyone else, to the best of our knowledge are factory remanufactured units. The confusion arises because most of the units you see look so good they appear to be new. Well, truth is, they might as well be new. Many of them contain very few parts that are not brand new. Very commonly it is only the castings and various covers that are reused.

A brief discussion about what the difference between new, remanufactured and rebuilt.
Rebuilt generally means what they do down at the local auto electric shop. They will replace worn parts and parts that usually break on that model. If they don't last long then they will take it apart again and try to fix it. Frequently a frustrating experience.

Everyone knows what new is. A large factory receives large quantities of small parts and raw materials, bearings, gears wire, connectors etc, and builds them into a starter. They build them to very tight specifications and test them accordingly. They build them in huge quantity to keep the cost down, but they are still expensive because of the costly castings stampings and windings that must be made for every one.

Factory remanufactured is much more like new than anything else. A large factory receives in truckload of used starters, where they sort them into different types. They are disassembled, and all of the wear items are discarded. The castings are checked, cleaned and remachined. Armatures are rewound and tested. All parts are checked for wear, and if they don't meet spec, they are discarded. The units are then assembled with new parts and tested to the same specs that the new starters are. If you were to walk onto the assembly floor of a remanufacturing plant, you would not be aware that they are not new parts.

Because all new castings and non wearing parts don't usually have to be used, the remanufactured starters offer a much better value to the consumer. Remanufactured starters usually last just as long as their new siblings, without the added cost. This is why we choose to use these for our standard line of starters, and back them with the best warranty in the business.

Conversion distributor Lucas 22D6 to 123ignition Conversion distributor Lucas 22D6 to 123ignition

We convert your distributor to the electronics of the 123ignition. This approach makes most sense if there's no standard solution in reference to the 123ignition for your car or if you attach great importance to original look under your bonnet. Here you see the conversion of a Lucas 22D6 distributor of a Triumph TR6. The distributor housing of the TR6 harbours a drive for the tachometer of the car, which is not implemented in the original 123ignition.

You ship us your complete distributor (incl. rotor and cap), we do the rest for you. We do a major overhaul inclusive cleaning and, if necessary, a rebuild of the bearings of the distributor shaft to eliminate any play in it. Thereafter we dismount the fault-prone mechanics inside the distributor expertly and replace it by the electronics of the 123ignition.

Needless to say you have the possibility to get a readily converted unit from us.

We drill a small hole in your original distributor housing giving you the opportunity to select one of the 16 advance curves implemented in the electronics to ensure an optimised curve for your engine. The tube attached to the electronics of the 123ignition providing the electronic vacuum module with vacuum is prolonged up the vacuum unit of the original housing so that you can attach your vacuum tube to there as usual. High-tech at its best, absolute original look.
